The university transformations promoted by the competency-based training model and student-centered training strategies favor the labor relevance demanded by productive and service organizations. This constitutes a significant challenge to incorporate new actors, processes, and structures in the decision-making process related to the educational service provided by contemporary universities. The study analyzes the characteristics and fundamental elements of governance incorporated in the educational models as the principal institutional documents that guide university education in Chile. A descriptive quantitative content analysis examines a sample of Chilean state universities. The presence of university governance elements is identified in most of the institutional documentation examined. It is concluded that the greater participation of elements from the supranational and exosystem ecological levels will provide better external legitimacy and internal effectiveness of the university formative process.
